You Can Help Kenya Right Now..

Hello!

I’m  requesting two things from you: 5 minutes of your undivided attention and a contribution equal to less than a tank of gas(half a tank, nowadays!), which will help to decide the future of Rebecca Hope, masters graduate of  International Non-Governmental Organizations, Regents College, London.

The problem is this: unless you (a Westerner) have 10 solid years of NGO work history or are a Kenyan citizen, your chances of being hired by an NGO in Kenya that offers a salary are slim to none.  Although some people believe charity work is an easy niche to find yourself in – reality indicates otherwise.  Speaking to USAID director, Dwaine Lee, she has learned that the junior level person at USAID in Nairobi has 10 years of experience and a PhD.  Helping others is not easy.

She has been advised by local recruitment agencies that the only way to become more employable is to obtain a Kenyan Work Permit .  She has been blessed with a  guarantee for employment from Harriet at Summit Recruitment once she gets the permit.

She has demonstrated through thought, word and action that she can persevere on sheer will, even when her age ( only 26) and political barriers are stacked against her.
If 75 people can donate $35 by March 18, She can have her work permit processed within one week.    Your support will provide the opportunity for Rebecca to stay there and continue the humanitarian work she has started.

CFO of Walgreens loses license after 2nd DUI

Wade Miquelon, the CFO (Chief Financial Officer) of Walgreens was originally pulled over on Sept 25 for a traffic violation. He faces a court hearing on Friday to face his second DUI charge in only 13 months. Since this is his second offense, and he refused a breathalyzer, he will lose his license for three years, according to secretary of state spokesman Dave Druker.

“This was a second incident in his driving situation; he had an incident in September 2009 where he did get court supervision,” Druker said. “You’re only allowed one court supervision on DUI in your lifetime.”

“Super Drunk” driver arrested in Jackson County

Smack dab in the middle of trick-or-treating, around 7 o’clock at night, kids are crossing the street, concentrating on their new candy collections.

“She went flying by,” describes neighbor Deanna Ekin.

A drunken driver, police say, with a blood alcohol level more than double the legal limit zoomed by. Ekin saw it all happen on the 700 block of Tomlinson Street.

“That’s really scary she was that drunk. And with all the kids out here…” she trails off.

Lt. Elmer Hitt of the Jackson Police says the 28-year-old woman is their first case in the new “super drunk driving” laws– laws that went into effect 12 a.m. Sunday. According to the law, people could now face much harsher penalties– including jail time– if your BAC is .17 or higher.

“Any time you have a drunk driver, when the BAC gets up higher, one concern is the safety of the public,” Hitt says.

Neighbors here say one of the scariest things about this situation is that the super drunk arrest on Tomlinson wasn’t the only one; there was at least one more in Jackson County on the first day of the law.

“We had two deputies observe a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed,” says Lt. Brad Piros of the Sheriff’s Office. “Through initial breathalyzer, he registered at a .175.”

Head of police rear-ended by drunk driver with 5 previous convictions

A woman allegedly drinking and driving picked the wrong car to rear-end. Inside the unmarked cruiser, the head of the Massachusetts State Police.

Not only was Donna Sclamo allegedly driving drunk, but her license was suspended.

Millions of drivers get behind the wheel of cars and trucks on the Massachusetts roads every single day.

What are the chances then, that one woman, suspected of driving while drunk, would rear end the leader of an anti-drunk driving crusade, the commander of the Massachusetts State Police herself, Colonel Marian McGovern.

It happened Monday just before noon, Col. McGovern was stopped at a red light on Rt. 20 at Grafton Street in Shrewsbury, when she was hit from behind.

Uninjured, she got out of her unmarked Ford Explorer, to check on the other driver who she then determined was under the influence.

Turns out this is 51 year old Donna Sclamo, of Worcester’s fifth OUI offense.

We went to Sclamo’s house in Worcester to try to speak with her, but didn’t make it to the door as we were met by one of her sons who told us to leave.

You may think this is a case of a driver crashing into the wrong person.

But that’s not how McGovern sees it.

Here’s a statement released by the Massachusetts State Police on her behalf.

“The Colonel is glad that if Ms. Sclamo was going to hit anyone, that she hit Cruiser 1, so that no private citizens were hurt and so the Massachusetts State Police could get a drunk driver off the road before she killed herself or someone else.”
