Drunk Driver hits Buffalo Police officer

Buffalo Police Officer Ivan Watkins was helping a broken down vehicle on Buffalo’s East Side near the intersection of Best Street and Sweeny when drunk driver James Robinson, age 54, ran into the officer. Officer Watkins was suffered head, leg, and hip injuries, and was taken to a local hospital. He is listed in fair condition. James Robinson has been charged with DWI and assault.

Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said, “luckily for the officer he was offset from the back of the police car…he had come within a foot of being smashed in between the two cars.” Commissioner Derenda added that he has known Officer Watkins for 20 years and he is one of the hardest working officers on the force.
